The Next Project A 1970 -MG,BGT

2005
The Last MG seems to have died a death,
There are a few more reasons to the project
not getting done , whilst looking to re Shell
the 68 i found this

to tell the truth it was a steal for its price,
its not Mint but it does have a lot of History

Like a ring binder full of History

With work like this already done
Makes my life easy there is a good few bits,
That need doing on Her

But There is still a lot of work to be done.
Starting with a good clean down
and use a few of the bits from the old MG
shot blast and Cleaned to get the chrome Bits.
The Engine Is first

New Braided Oil cooler Hoses
Shot blast rocker and a re paint
Chrome rocker T bars
full Service
Strip a few more Bits out and Clean and Paint

Inside Is Also on the books
as being a 1970 car its short of every thing
a general tidy up

chrome door furniture
center console with custom made trims
with a few Extra's

Ok so there now has been a few Shows
And a bit of time gone by and we have bought a few things
and spent a lot of time messing. but it now looks a whole lot better,
After the center console re fit & Leather
now with a radio you need some speakers
New door Cards / Handles Chrome & Chrome screws and a few other bits

Another Problem was the clutch and brakes
with a very bad leak losing the fluid fast...!
That calls for a full strip down clean and re build of the brake and clutch pedals.

Full shot blast and paint / new seal kit's
for the clutch and brakes

Now there is another place that is very good
ok not as good as this web site.!!!
E -Bay you can pick up anything on there

Like refurbish rostyle wheels

Old

New spare set while old are refurbed
Refurbed await paint
OK so now the car is in the garage for the bad winter,. ?
so now time to do some good work on her,
first she has been running a bit funny lumpy even and bad starting and real bad petrol fumes even over flowing the carbs. So lets strip the carbs down..?

Now Time for the out side to have a turn Again
the old bumpers where looking a bit on the bad side so time for Some new ones...
and a new front grill
old Chrome
New Chrome Painted Backs
Well Its Christmas and that dose not stop us
working on the car
The new Bumpers are on new side / Indicator units
And one of my X mas Gifts a new
Mota Lita Wheel ..WoW.!!!!
with all this work being done out side the under body has not had a good going over
so it gets the next bit of a work out
full under body wax oil and arches
And The
work goes on
The back end of the B skips around so much
you would think its trying to fly ,
so now comes the Spax rear Kit and new U bolts
And the Front end gets it to with
3/4" Roll bar and polly Kit
and the old shocks get new 30% up rated

Old 1/2"
New 3?4"
Now we await some more of the chrome work
to tidy the car up even more...
just a few of the bits changed over

A few bits got swapped over as you can see
from door Locks to new rear lock cap even bits in the engine bay locks and hinges
Just to keep you all up to speed a few
before and after Shot's
Oh Dear the car has had a wee.
to tell more of the truth it's fuel

On a closer look at the fuel tank it was coming
out at some speed
Parts Req
1 . Fuel tank
2 . Fuel line
3 . Sender unit
4 . sender seal kit
5 . Fitting Kit
On striping the old tank out the boot floor had a good clean
any small bit of rust was cleaned
then treated then painted
Next was to prep the tank clean and paint
for fitting

once painted
tank re fitted with new fuel line
and off she Goes again....?

Ready for Drive it Day 2006
First club run out with the old girl

Oh NO.!!!
we have found the Tin worm
in the back drivers side of the floor pan .
all this rust hidden by BOG well only one thing for it strip down clean up Cut out and fit a new floor pan
The passenger side has a small hole in the floor as well this can just be patched up
one good thing with the hole carpet striped out and the seats it given me time to clean the trim and
seats

Ok so now the car has been to Mr MG

ENTUNE 2000

Advised to have full floor pan in the
drivers side and a repair patch for the
passenger side

New heritage panel ready and waiting

New floor fitted
and a good job done too By

Entune 2000
A Full clean up of the seat's and trim can now
be done due to there being nothing in the car

While this work is being sorted time to play with other things

The car now has K&N's so to do the job right
you must re jet / fit new Needles
type 6 the car has no other engine mods apart from K&N's

aswel as all the other bits that needs doing the front end is up in the clouds after doing the back shocks and putting up rated shocks on the front a new set of springs are called for as well as a full poly kit ( Fast Road )
Also you can see in the back ground the spare fuel
pump that we have is also up for a treat the whole thing has had a clean down
and started to be painted and ready for turning into a solid state pump.

Ok so its getting a little intense now the work on the car
Full polly kit on the front
with all the fun of trying to build the front the compressor gose and blows up on me... !
Next on the list is now the rear Polly KIT
Old Polly Kit
New Polly Kit
And full strip down clean and paint of all

Feb 07

Ok so there has been even more work done on the old girl now
The engine is coming out and being played with.

The engine bay is now empty ish
and has given me the chance to give it the once over

With the engine out and being taken to bits
At the same time i can get cleaning parts and also painting them ready for when it all gose back in..!
At the same time the gear box mounts needed to be sorted also the mounts where shot new unit cleaned painted and new mounts
Also the front cross member had new Polly pads fitted just because its easy er with the engine out

Ok while we wait for the work to be done on the Engine a few other bits can be done to the car

Like a Kenlow Fan unit

And also fitting new backing units to the front brake units as the old ones had died

As for the engine the list starts
1. Peter Burgess Fast Road Head
2. + 60 bore
3. High Lift Cam 717
4. Ground crank shaft +10
5. Lightened fly wheel
6. Balanced engine
7. New up rated oil pump
8. Magtronic Points kit
9. Sump Baffle
10. New Push rods with Tapits
11. A John tune up..?

The Old Cylinder Head
The New Peter Burgess Stage 2Cylinder Head
The USA version with the Air injection hole blocked / plugged
At this moment in time we are staying with the Cast manifold but put the exhaust wrap around the unit to try and help
With a standard Stainless Exhaust system
Now at the same time all this work is being done we also changed the washer get system from the old pump button to the new electric system
And to also help the new engine we have added a Kenlowe fan kit
and also a warning light in the cab so you know when its on / if its working
Ok we have now got the engine back from Entune 2000
Where John has been playing and building what seems to be a fast road 1860 engine.!
The engine is now back into the car
Oil filled - Water filled
Carb's set up and on
we are now ready to try to fire the car up
The engine has been turned over by hand and checked and the oil pressure is up on the engine
When the car engine turns over
all we see is smoke
the unit pictured to the right burns out
it has been set up correctly
so now strip this dizzy out and fit the spare one we have that has points in it so the car can get some miles in before it gets a good beating ..!
Ok the engine is set up and runs
Only problem we have is after 200 miles the front of the engine looses oil and it dies

Not A problem the car goes back to the place that had built the engine and they make a whole new Engine to the same spec and it Runs like a dream.

After all we dont always get things right first Time....!!

So with the new engine comes the new Exhaust for the Car a full stainless system

First is the Back box

Next is the front pipes

Next was a few bits like gas strut kits for the Boot & Bonnet of the car
As Well on the inside of the car
We still have the inerta real seat belts but we have fitted 3 point harnnes to the drivers side
The roof has been next in line for work
the place that sorted the engine had a late B come in that has a A1 Mint Britax roof for sale so off we go to strip the old unit out and fit it into our car
Next came the deal of a life time
i found a set of wheels from Flea Bay
New 14" and missed out on the time
Rang the company that had them for sale they had now put tyres on and wheel centres and came with wheel nuts
Only problem we had was with the wheel hub there is some lips on the hub that stoped the wheels sitting on the hub true and would send the wheel out when you spun it.
